Fashion is a huge inspiration when it comes to senior portrait photography.  So when a senior rep has dreams of being a fashion model, you can bet she is going to rock the clothes for her shoot!

That’s exactly what this senior below dreams of being.  So Katrina Weingart of VioletRay Photography treated this session with a couture catalog approach.

Check out this beautiful session below and be sure to view more of Katrina’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Katrina!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This session was style for more of a couture “catalog” approach. Nicole is deep into sports, but has a dream for becoming a fashion model.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place in downtown Missoula. We had to do some REALLY quick thinkging on where we wanted to go because as soon as we finished getting ready for the session, a gi-NORMOUS rain storm hit, so we had to dodge for cover to get out of the drenching rain!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We worked together for this session via Pinterest. We created a “VRP Shoot Idea” board, where Nicole showed me the look she was going for, and then I collaborated with one of the local boutiques in town, One Eleven Boutique, to dress her in the style she wanted!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III, and I used my 85mm for this session. I also used a silver sided reflector to bounce in that extra pretty light because we were working with really rainy and heavy overcast weather.

What time of day were these taken?
We shot from approximately 5-8pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Simple and Clean! This session was all about clean, bold, and bright. Nailing the SOOC, it was easy to push them through LR into PS just to give all the fine details the polishing touch. I’m telling ya, you get your images right SOOC, and your editing time will be a breezey walk in the park!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
MMMMM… the fashion! Working the clothing with the tight locations that we were forced into using because of the sudden bad weather. It’s such a great exercise for my camera skills, and for getting as many variations out of one pose making it look like we were ALL over the place!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This session was meant to convey “Classy”. My photography style is meant to be Classy and Unique. Edgey and Chic. I ALWAYS want Mum and Dad to be happy while giving the Senior the unique edge that teenagers crave. Always timeless… never aging.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
It always goes back to “listen to them!” If you want your seniors to be comfortable in front of your camera, get to know them. Listen to the hopes and goals of their senior pictures. Put yourself back into their shoes, and what you wished you had for your senior pictures. We are here for them. If you always remember that, you’ll be a favourite rock star in their book… because YOU are the one who is there to deliver their dream image.
