When you have a senior client who loves to dance, the posing opportunities are endless.  As evident in this beautiful photo shoot below by Victoria Simmons of Victoria Simmons Photography, dancing poses express both this senior and her love of her art.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This was actually Haleigh’s second senior session with me. During her first shoot, we did a few jumps at the end. Once we realized how well we worked together, she decided to do a second session solely dedicated to dance.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This session was shot at Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, in Georgia. It’s an absolutely stunning location.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We had discussed the concept of doing some poses on and around the driftwood, but I gave her free reign for the clothing. I didn’t know enough to say so about dance before our session, so I didn’t know what would work best and what would cause problems. I did suggest bringing some fabric to use as a prop.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Camera: Canon t2i
Lens: 35mm 2.0

What time of day were these taken?
4-6PM
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I used Oh So Posh Photography’s sky overlays, as well as some of her actions from the Wanderlust collection.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Is everything an option?

Honestly though, Haleigh was amazing to work with. We came up with so much variety. I had over two hundred usable images from our two hour session. She was willing to try all sorts of crazy things to get the shots I had imagined.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This session showcases how unique senior portraits can be. I truly believe that the “classic” senior portraits are on the way out the door. For so many seniors, this is the last year of their life that they’ll be doing a lot of things (dance, sports, music, etc.). It’s important to take advantage of those talents and interests and express them to the fullest.

It shows how amazingly talented Haleigh is. Every time I go through these photos, I fall in love with them all over again. She was the perfect model for this session.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Let them express themselves. Get to know them before your session so you know what characteristics, talents, and other traits they want to display in their photos. After all, these photos are all about them.
