Having your clients trust you to find the perfect location for their senior photo shoot, is part of the experience.  Being able to understand who they are and pick a location that best fits their personality is a great way to express who they are in the photos.

In this beautiful session below, photographer Dawn Attebery of Studio You Portraits in Dallas, Texas said, “This senior and her mom wanted an unusual location for this shoot.  Knowing this family, who lives away from the city, I thought the Cotton Mill would be perfect for them.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
The senior and her mom wanted an unusual location for this photo shoot. Knowing this family, who lives away from the city, I thought the Cotton Mill would be perfect for them. It’s a little rustic looking with the exposed brick, wood, and metal. This senior loves boots, too, which I thought would go very well with the setting.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The Cotton Mill in McKinney, Texas

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I helped her with clothing prior to the session by sending suggestions and then talking to her in person at her pre-session consultation.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon D600, Nikkor 80-200mm 1.8 lens

What time of day were these taken?
Mid-afternoon

What is your favorite thing about this session?
This senior is an athlete, so I wanted to highlight her strength in some of the posing. I loved the clothing she chose. Everything went very well with the location.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey my contemporary style and that I’m very aware of color and composition when I shoot.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
A pre-session consultation is really important! It helps you to get to know your seniors better and to help them make good clothing choices. I sent the family a pdf file, which serves as an on-line magazine, which tells them my philosophy on what photographs best.
