Finding out what your senior reps love and getting to know them, helps make their session extra special, and Lori Waddell of Lori Waddell Photography did just that!

In this session, Lori uses this senior’s love of music by incorporating her guitar.  I love the set Lori made with the pillows and I love the color!!  So pretty!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
Oooooooh I am inspired by so many different things……magazines, movies, pinterest, music, and not to mention an awesome thrift or antique store!  For this particular shoot I was inspired by her ability to play her guitar and wanted our shoot to incorporate what she loves to do.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This particular photo shoot took place in Cartersville, GA.  We started off in an alley and then headed to an open field and finished the session in a park.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, one of the most important things to me as a photographer is clothing…… I love to help style seniors!  I also send to them my senior info packet that has information as far as where to shop, hair, makeup and skin tips, what to expect during their shoot and different types of locations.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II with 50mm 1.4 and 85 mm 1.8.  This particular day started off sunny, but then turned very cloudy…..at this point I used a reflector (no flash).  I am a natural light photographer who has a love for gorgeous sunlight 🙂

What time of day were these taken?
These photos were taken in early spring, we started around 3:00 and finished around 5:00.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I keep all of my post processing very simple.  These photos were edited in Lightroom using one of my matte presets that I created to fit my shooting/editing style.  A little contrast boost, sharpening and vignette…..that’s all!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved everything about this session….she is such an outgoing individual with a fun personality!  My favorite part was when she started playing her guitar, It felt like it was a part of her.  She had such a connection to her music and it truly showed in her photographs.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I consider myself to have a lifestyle approach to portrait photography.  I adore shooting seniors…..they are so full of life, hopes, and dreams!   I enjoy to talking to them about where they are going to college, what they like to do on weekends, and what funny stories they have to tell…..I love a good natural laugh!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Definitely get to know each senior beforehand…..I like to know what their interests and/or hobbies are so that each session can represent who they are and their individual personality.
