What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This photoshoot is entirely fashion-inspired by Haley’s sleek and gorgeous prom dress, which is why we went for a classy black and white theme.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The Ralph Lauren flagship store on 72nd street fits the look of Haley’s gown perfectly, and that’s where we shot.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Both my senior and I are from Texas, but we actually flew to New York for this shoot. Haley dressed herself from top to bottom, and the concept was all about her and the dress.

Haley finished her high school earlier than has classmates, so she could take extra college classes before heading off to university. Because she left early, she never got to go to prom.
We photographed her in her prom dress as an alternative to going to prom.

Every girl deserves a cinderella moment, and this was her’s.

The chic hair-do and gorgeous makeup concept was created by Sunkissed and Madeup.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark III and 85mm f/1.2 L lens

What time of day were these taken?
4 PM

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
This photoshoot was processed using Lightroom with a custom preset I created for a photoshoot in Paris that softened cityscapes with pastel tones in the highlights and added cinematic colors in the shadows.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Haley is an unique kind of girl. She didn’t want her senior portraits to look like everyone else’s, and I love that her fashion-forward photoshoot transcended the scope of an average senior portrait.

One of my favorite things about Haley and her photoshoot is that she’s not afraid to be different. She’s bold, smart, and quite mature for her age. Haley’s photos expressed that about her.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
My seniors are typically not the average senior. Haley is no exception. I truly believe that each individual I photograph is unique and has their own story to tell. The way I photograph my seniors varies from person to person because every photoshoot is a collaboration. I put a bit of me in the photos by the way I see them, but my seniors can transform photoshoots because of who they are.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Ask a lot of questions and really get to know your seniors before their photoshoot. They will react to you entirely differently during the photoshoot if they know you really understand and care for them.
