Having your seniors bring a variety of options for clothing for their senior photo shoot is a perfect way to get tons of different looks and give your senior the feeling of being a fashion model!!  And who doesn’t want to feel like that? 🙂
This senior brought everything from casual to evening wear, and Hope Davis of Hope Davis Photography did an excellent job of capturing each look perfectly.
Check out this session below and read what Hope had to say about it.  And be sure to check out Hope’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Hope!
What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
I let my senior, Payton, be my inspiration.  She brought some amazing outfits, ranging from country  chic to an elegant evening gown.  With the wardrobe she brought, I knew I would get a huge variety of shots.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
The shoot took place in my little home town of Decatur, Mississippi.  Locations are all within a one mile radius of each other.  We started out at a church, then went to an old abandoned building, followed by two different schools.  We ended the session at sunset at a dairy farm.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I told Payton to wear what she loves and to bring a variety of outfits from casual to formal.  We met a little early so we could decide which outfits would look best for each location.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
I shot the entire session with my Canon 5D Mark ii and a 85mm 1.8.  This is by far my favorite lens for teens and seniors.  I also used a reflector from time to time, depending on the lighting.
What time of day were these taken?
We met about 3:30 pm so I could look through her outfits and decide on locations.  We started shooting around 4 pm and didn’t stop until the sun went down.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I used Elements 8 to edit the session – yes, you read that right, no fancy LR4 or CS5, just good old PSE.  I have two action I use on just about every image; the first is Pop Skin Tones from My Four Hens Photography and the second is Sweet Sunshine from Florabella.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
This was my first ‘real’ senior.  Until now, I have only photographed my niece and nephew’s senior portraits (and since they’re family I don’t count them).  Payton was so easy to photograph, which gave me a great deal of confidence.  I hope to add more seniors to my portfolio this year.
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Payton is a beautiful young woman with great style.  I hope these images convey how amazing she is, both inside and out.  I want every session to be genuine to the person, and not turn them into somebody they’re not.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Have your senior bring a friend.  Not only are they great for holding a reflector, but they can help your senior relax and have fun.  Don’t forget to take a couple pictures of them together.
