Photographing seniors is so much fun but even more so when you are related to that senior.  Leslie Bailey of Bailey 5 Photography photographed her step-daughter’s senior photo session and it is beautiful!  Leslie says her daughter was her inspiration and they wanted a session that was both glamourous and urban.  I think they definitely succeeded in creating the look they wanted!  Great job!

Check out this session below and read what Leslie had to say about it.  Also, check out more of Leslie’s work here.  Thanks for sharing!!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My daughter Tyler was my inspiration. We wanted to show you can be both urban and glamorous even in small town USA.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Carrollton, GA. We started at the doors of the city courthouse and ended up in an alley on a side street.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
She and I went shopping for a few items and she mixed in a few pieces of her own. We discussed the look she was going for which was a mix of urban and glamour.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon D700, 85mm and 50mm

What time of day were these taken?
We started around 6:30 almost a couple of hours before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I try to get as close to possible to what I want in camera.  I start with lightroom to correct any exposure and whitebalance issues.  After which I move to photoshop elements where I do some basic corrections for skin and color pop.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
That it was with my step daughter and just seeing her transform from a young girl to a young women right before my eyes.  Time passes so fast and I am just glad a could be a part in this special time in her life.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This session shows that Tyler is a fun and sweet girl but still has an edge about her. When I photograph seniors I want them to feel free to express themselves, have a great time and think outside the box.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Don’t be afraid to be silly and have fun yourself.  Show your personality without being fake. If you are upbeat, laughing (even if it’s at yourself) and having a great time, then your senior will also relax and do the same.
