Some photographers are sun seekers and Audrey Perez of Audrey Perez Photography proves that she is exactly that with these beautiful sun-filled, backlit images of a Class of 2015 senior.

“Miranda knew that she wanted sun-blown, back-lit images in a natural setting,” said Audrey.  “I chose a location that I knew would provide the variety and light that she was looking for.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Miranda knew that she wanted sun blown, back-lit images in a natural setting. Which is my favorite type of session. I choose a location that I knew would provide the variety and light that she was looking for.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Folsom, California

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. I do an in person planning session with each client. At the planning session we discuss what type of setting they are looking for, hair, makeup and picking out the right outfits for amazing portraits. I also have every client text me their outfits if they do not bring them to the consult so that I know what to expect and can provide feedback if needed. Clients want to look amazing – providing support and direction helps to establish a great working relationship with my families.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark III and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II – I love the versatility of this lens. My favorite portrait lens! 40×60 white/silver reflector.

What time of day were these taken?
We started shooting an hour and a half before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
In post I go over every image for stray hairs, clothing straps that might have been missed, blemishes and any other misc. changes that need o be made. Once that is complete I lightly smooth skin, sharpen, adjust levels as needed – that is it. Pretty simple. I truly feel simple is best – I want my clients to look like the best version of them self – my goal is not to drastically change their appearance.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The light! I am a sucker for evening light and I love a beautifully sun blown image.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I love working with seniors – it is really that simple. When you look at my website, Facebook or Instagram I hope that is what is conveyed. When a seniors family look at my portraits I want them to see their baby as the young adult they are becoming but not to lose their identity. My goal is for a client to be the best possible version of themselves on the day of their session not to make them into something that they are not. I take great joy in knowing that I am creating art that will last a lifetime.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Speed. Speed is everything with seniors. My clients are seeing and selecting their portraits within a week or less of their shoot.
