When Lindsey Lyons sent in this submission, I was shocked to find out she has only been in business for a year!!  Looking at these photos, you would think she is an old pro! 🙂
Lindsey Lyons is the photographer and owner behind Lindsey Lyons Photography in Portland, Oregon.  She loves to photograph anything downtown and has a fresh approach to photographing seniors.
This senior session is awesome!  I think it truly captures the beauty of the senior!  Megan is one of Lindsey’s Senior Models and below Lindsey shares with us a little about her senior model program.  Here is what she had to say…
What was the inspiration behind this photo shoot?
Fashion! We were going for a very natural look and for images that might look more like they were ripped from the pages of Seventeen than a typical senior session. I also like to get feedback from my clients. Megan and her mom were not into the sun flare/hazy lighting so we stuck to more traditional lighting situations!
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Portland, Oregon
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing for this photo shoot?
If so, can you share where the clothing came from?
The clothes were all Megan’s idea! I shared some tips (wearing layers, accessories, etc.). The majority of Megan’s clothes were purchased at Nordstrom. We did talk about hair and make-up. I offer hair and make-up services to my senior models and both turned out amazing!
What camera, lens and equipment was used in this shoot?
Canon 5dmII, 85 mm, 24-70 mm
What time of day did this shoot take place?
The session was at about 2 in the afternoon however it was in April, a typically cloudy time in Oregon so we didn’t have to battle the sun. I usually never shoot in the middle of the day but we had been battling months (literally months) of rain and were on a deadline! We were lucky that day!
Can you share any post processing tips that you used when editing these photos?
I like a clean edited look. I always color correct and fix blemishes/ smooth skin slightly. I want my seniors to look as they really are so I don’t like to go overboard. Occasionally I will do something crazy with my editing like running a specific action (my favorites are by Wynona Robinson).
What is your favorite thing about these photos?
I love how this session turned out! Megan is one of the nicest girls and she has no clue how gorgeous she is! She is so kind and genuine and I think these images are so her! I also love that these images have a fashion vibe to them.
What do you want this photo session to convey about this senior and your senior photography business?
I’m not your typical senior photographer. I want each one of my sessions to look different and really show off each seniors personality. I have nightmares of posed senior shoots! I make it my personal goal to make each senior laugh, have fun, and really show their true personality. This was so easy with Megan but it can be tricky at times!
This senior is one of your senior models.  Can you share a little about your senior model program?
I have only been in business a year so this is my first year with senior models! My senior model program has started off small this year but it has already been successful! Each senior model gets 2 full sessions. One session takes place in or before April of the model’s junior year. The second session can take place during the summer or fall of the model’s senior year. Each model gets rep cards (printed at Miller’s) and a proof book. They are able to earn print credits or other items for each referral they bring me. I think this is an invaluable program for a photographer new to the senior market!
How do you chose your senior models?
Anyone interested in being a senior model must fill out an application and send an image to me. I am looking for a variety looks, interests, and styles.
How many do you have per year?
My goal is to have 1-2 models per school in my area!
Do you have a specific senior season?  If so, when?
August- November
What is one tip you could share with other senior portrait photographers?
Just like any client, find out what your seniors are into. This is super easy for me because I’m a teenager at heart! We talk about music, TV shows, clothes, or college. Boys can be a little more difficult but I find they respond well to joking around! I also recommend getting a subscription to some teen magazines (I get Seventeen) to get fashion and posing ideas!
