Kate Craft is a family, child and senior photographer located in the beautiful north woods of Wisconsin.  She started her photography career a little over two years ago and has discovered her love for photographing seniors.
Kate believes that everyone is unique and she strives to bring out each of her client’s personalities and what makes them unique during their photo shoots.  Below is a senior shoot that Kate submitted to us.  I love that this senior included her boyfriend in some of the shots, and as Kate says…”I got an assistant for some shots too!”
Check out more of Kate’s work here.  Thanks Kate for sharing your work with Seniorologie!
What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I literally drove past this location in the evening and fell in love with the light and the feel of it. The wheels started turning and this session was born.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
At the end of a dusty dirt road in Iron River, WI.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with clothing for this shoot?
Yes we talked back and forth about what style we wanted and she brought a laundry basket full of clothing to the shoot!!! I always try to pull out my clients style just a bit more polished. I really want their senior portraits to be about them and their style.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this photo shoot?
My lil’ Rebel XTI and a 50mm 1.8
What time of day was this shot? Late in the evening. I love to shoot in those last 2 hours before sunset.
Can you share any post processing techniques used when editing this session? Noisware is my best friend. With the setup I have, my ISO capabilities are limiting so I get a bit of noise in my photos that I would rather not have.
What is your favorite thing about these photos? I really love that these photos showcase my senior, no props no flashy backdrops.  Just nature and her.
What do you feel this session conveys about your photography style and about this senior’s style? My style is clean simple and modern I think this session easily fits into that. I think her style also fit well into that she chose great clothes and was at ease in front of the camera.
What is one tip you could share with other senior photographers? Know your camera You have enough going on with posing and keeping a teen engaged, the last thing you want to be worried about is getting it right in camera. That part should be second nature. And remember to have fun!
