Seniorologie has written articles and blog posts here on this blog and for other blogs on this very subject…How to Get Your Work Featured. But today, we are getting advice from Brittni Schroeder of Brittni Schroeder Photography and Mozi Magazine. Below she shares with us five things that help when looking to get your work featured whether it is in a magazine or on a blog. Thanks for sharing Brittni!
There are so many fabulous blogs, Instagram feeds, Facebook pages, and publications in the photography world. These resources feature some of the industry’s most talented artists. How do you get your work featured? Do you have what it takes to be seen and recognized amongst the best of the best? I have listed five things to do to get featured:
Get Noticed
Make your images different. Our motto over at Mozi is Be Authentic. It’s okay to like another photographer’s work and to be inspired by them, but don’t try to be just like them. If you see another photographer’s work that you like and want to do something similar, that is acceptable, but how are you going to make that concept your own? Strive to do something different that hasn’t been done several times before. How can you make a concept original? Think outside the box. It might not turn out how you hope, but keep pushing yourself. If you are always content with your work, you will never grow and get better.
Tell a Story
When you think about images that have truly moved you, what is it about that images that left an impact? Did it evoke emotion? Why? Images that tell a story can make an audience feel connected. Seeing a sequence of images that seem to tell a story can pull you into the image and inspire you to be part of the story being told.
Personal Work
As photographers, we are inspired by and love to create beauty, but lets be honest, we are here to make money. We get so wrapped up into what our clients want that we forget to remember why we do what we do. Take the time to do your own personal work. Make it a priority to shoot things that you speak to you.
Ask
Try to submit your work regularly. There are many photography blogs and publications that are accepting submissions from photographers. In addition to your images, offer to write an article about something that readers want to learn about. Photography publications and blogs are looking for information coupled with great images to keep their readers engaged. Contact these resources, and ask if you can write an article on a particular subject that other photographers want to learn about.
Don’t Give Up
Don’t let yourself get discouraged by rejection. Too often we are told no and find ourselves defeated and too timid to try again. DON’T GIVE UP. Keep submitting and asking. Keep doing personal work and refining your skills. Submit new work every chance you get. Look for different resources or publications to submit your work. If you keep improving your skills, someone is bound to notice your talent and want to use it.

I love this! This is so true. I submitted my work for a long time before I got my first feature. The more you work at it, the more you will improve. It can be frustrating, but Don’t Give Up!!!
Thanks for this! One of my 2014 goals is to get published so this is very helpful!
