Involving your reps throughout the year in styled shoots, is a great way to keep in touch with them, keep them excited about modeling for you, and involve them throughout their senior year!

That’s exactly what Anne of Anne Schillings Photography did with two of her senior models in this fun, retro styled photo shoot in a cupcake bakery!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Loved the clean modern yet retro look of the bakery & thought the mustache theme is so popular right now it would be fun & contemporary. The seniors have been best friends since childhood & wanted their portraits taken together.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Moustache Baked Good in Healdsburg, CA. http://moustachebakedgoods.com

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
The seniors have been best friends since childhood & asked if they could have their senior portraits sessions on the same day so that we could get a few of them together.  I offered the seniors a second session at the bakery in addition to their traditional senior portraits. They are two of my senior representatives this year.  They knew what the store looked like so I sent them photos of clothes that I thought would look good & suggestions for hair & makeup.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon Markiii, canon 35mm 1.4 lens

What time of day were these taken?
10:00 a.m.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I shot some of the photos back lit so I did some high light recovery. I also increased saturation to bring out the reds.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
It was a dream to be allowed to shoot in a store that I thought was adorable with two beautiful seniors & capture the fun of two best friends.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want to convey that I do fun colorful photographs. Also, that I like to personalize each session with something that is specific to that teen or teens. In this case these girls have been best friends since childhood so getting to photograph them having fun eating cupcakes & hanging out was it for them.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
The best way to get a genuine reaction from a senior is to talk to them while you are shooting. They may be laughing with you or at you but be ready for that genuine emotion to come out & you will capture a real moment.
