What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Breanna is a laid back girl who loves surfing and spending time on the beach on the beautiful Space Coast of Florida. We wanted to channel this natural, golden, sunshine state vibe in the images that we created together to remind her of her home and passion for the sand and water.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The Historic Cocoa Beach Pier in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes! Breanna and I spent time together talking about her personal style and interests to create the perfect look for her sunset photo shoot. We decided that for the session we wanted to channel a natural, surf and sunshine look with golden hour lighting and vibrant colors. We purposefully chose a location that would remind her of the memories she has made in her teen years surfing with family and friends.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
This session was shot with a Canon 6d camera body and Canon 85mm 1.2 prime lens.

What time of day were these taken?
6:00- 7:15 pm (sunset)

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
In post-processing I worked to highlight the beautiful blue colors and soft, golden lighting. Making these elements pop was important to me. In culling I looked for images that were relaxed and natural to reflect the effortless beauty of my senior.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Now and then the stars align and you end up with a beautiful subject who has an amazing personality, the perfect lighting and an iconic location- all of the things that photographer’s dreams are made of! I really enjoyed shooting at the Cocoa Beach Pier because it is a spot that embodies the surfing style and relaxed feeling of Florida’s East Coast culture.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I love that the images from this session convey Breanna in a way that will allow her to remember her beautiful coastal home as she moves away from the beaches to attend college in the fall. The images also nod to her new path toward a degree in broadcasting and allowed her to show off her gorgeous smile and outgoing, bubbly spirit! I believe that the personalities and ideas of our senior clients are so important. A crucial part of creating a great experience for our seniors is listening and collaborating to create a cohesive look for each unique teen that we work with. Senior year is a time that is full of anticipation and excitement for the future and my style is bright, candid and fun to convey this emotion for my senior subjects.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
It is important to develop the client-photographer relationship before shooting seniors to establish a connection that will allow your senior to feel comfortable with you in front of the camera. Offering support in the selection of clothing, locations, and other elements to style the shoot will go a long way in building that rapport. This connection between client an photographer will, in turn, allow for more natural images of your subject on the day of your shoot.
