What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration for this photo shoot was the vintage GUESS advertisements, circa 1989.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo shoot took place at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo, NY. There are a couple of different looks this location provides such as a woodsy trail area and hills filled with beautiful weedy grass which provide a lot of versatility without driving to a new spot. Tifft is close to my home and one of my favorite places to shoot.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Reagan and I collaborated before our session. She mentioned that she envisioned a vintage vibe and planned to bring an old suitcase from her home. We decided on a natural setting and discussed outfit ideas and fun accessories.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
For this shoot, I used my Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200mm f2.8L, and Canon 50mm f1.4.

What time of day were these taken?
7:30-9pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I edited mostly in Lightroom 5, first fixing exposure if needed, then pushing the sliders to add magenta to the background. I added contrast and pushed the shadows and blacks up to almost 100, and pulled back the highlights so they weren’t blown. I smoothed the skin and add some yellow back to skin. I use PS 6 for any cloning.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session was Reagan’s confidence in front of the camera, even though she told me she normally does not like the way she appears in photos. Reagan is naturally stunning and she was great at both taking direction and posing herself. Her younger sister was with us and kept Reagan smiling and laughing while we roamed the park. I think Reagan’s confidence shines in these photos.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey Reagan’s natural inner beauty and the confidence that radiates from her. She is the oldest of 5 girls and a role model for her younger sisters. I want this session to convey my senior photography style as natural, fun, and ethereal.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
One tip that I can share regarding photographing seniors is that I like to shoot my subjects while they are moving. We will usually start with a pose and then I have them move slightly, turn their head, look down, look back at me, so they look and feel more natural.
