Combining a modern senior girl with some vintage elements, a cute little southern town and beautiful light creates a beautiful session that is inspiring!  Denise Birdsong of Modern Love Photography submitted a session that is classic and vintage but without being dated!  Well done Denise!

I love the light in these photos and combined with the concept it really shows off both the photographer’s talent and the beauty of this senior!  Check out the session below and be sure to check out Denise’s other work here.  Thanks for sharing Denise!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?

Alexis (our Sr) and I really wanted to create a variety of classic images that would not be too trendy, vintage or kitsch.  We wanted imagery that would stand the test of time.  So we took some modern elements, vintage inspired elements and tried to bring it together for a classic but very cool look!

Where did this photo shoot take place?

In a sleepy little  historic town located in Northern Ca called Niles,  which was once the home town of Charlie Chaplin and other of the silent film stars in the early 1900’s

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

Alexis and I worked on her wardrobe together, we used pieces from shopruche.com, added some pieces from her wardrobe, Target and then some extraordinary pieces from Givenchy and Channel!  I love mixing great design pieces with lesser expensive items.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?

Cannon 5D Mark II

50 1.2

85 1.8

What time of day were these taken?

Late afternoon

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

I don’t really do allot of post with images, basic color corrections in lightroom and occasionally VSCO Film actions

What is your favorite thing about this session?

How gorgeous we made Alexis look and feel!  It never ever gets old for me, seeing the delight of the girls when they get their images back!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style? Sorry I don’t have an answer for this one

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Relationship first / photography second.  That is my philosophy on every single thing I shoot.  It is my job to establish a relationship with my client where they feel comfortable enough to be in a vulnerable situation and do the sometimes silly feeling this I guide, direct and coach them to do in order to get great images.  Without that relationship  without that trust I simply could not take the type of images I do
