Communicating with your seniors prior to their session really allows you to get to know them.  And by getting to know them, you can create a unique photo session that really allows you to capture their personality and who that senior really is!

Michelle Gifford of Michelle Gifford Photography and also Beauty Revived said she emailed and texted this senior many times prior to the shoot.  This allowed her to get to know this senior and create a session that was unique to her.

“We had talked a lot and by the day of her shoot, we were excited!” said Michelle. “We had come up with a session that was unique to her and that is what I strive to do for each of my seniors.”

Check out this fun-filled session below and read what else Michelle had to say about it!  Also, be sure to check out Michelle’s inspiring movement called Beauty Revived that “showcases real women with real beauty through photography.”  Thank you for sharing your work with Seniorologie Michelle!!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Ryan, the senior, said that all she wanted was a session that was different from everyone else’s. Ryan has a bright and bold personality. I wanted to showcase that. So, we brought in a lot of color and had a lot of fun.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Riverside, CA.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 50d and 50mm 1.2 lens

What time of day were these taken?
3 hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I keep my post processing clean and simple.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Ryan brought her friend and her friend’s young daughters with her. They were able to get involved with throwing the color. Unfortunately, they got a lot more color than they bargained for. When the girls threw the color powder at Ryan, the wind picked up and they got hot pink powder right in the face. It really was a party!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This session was all about the senior and who she is inside. I want these pictures to show that being creative can make your photos stand out.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Stay fresh and don’t be afraid to have a little fun. I think we get a little too caught up in what other photographers in the industry are doing instead of listening to our seniors and doing what they want. Remember, you are in it for them.
