Showing off a senior’s artistic edge is exactly what Micah Folsom of Micah Folsom Photography did in this cool session below.  I love that the senior’s love of art is shown throughout this shoot and her original work is featured!

Check out what Micah had to say about this session below and be sure to check out more of her work here.  Thanks for sharing Micah!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?

Elise’s fashion sense and artistic abilities were definitely my inspiration. I learned all I could about her before the shoot and realized that her style was fab and she is an amazing artist so I used those two things and went with it.

Where did this photo shoot take place?

The session took place in Stillwater, OK. We started out in the back alleys of the older part of town and then finished up in a wooded area that Elise picked out.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

YES! This is one of my favorite parts of the pre-session period. I like to get a sense of my senior’s style, send them to a couple of my pinterest boards to give them some fun ideas and then have them text me pictures of all their outfit options. I usually have them bring tons and then we pick and choose final outfits when we get together for the session.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?

I shoot with the D700 and shot most of the session with the 50 1.4 & 85 1.4, with a few wide angle shots with the 16-35.

What time of day were these taken?

Since we started the session in the alleys, we started around 2 hours before sunset and finished up in the woods as the sun was going down.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

I do all my initial editing in ACR, open one of those into CS5 and create a batch edit to run on the rest of the images, and then open each file individually if I want to make any additional artistic edits to those. I use some Florabella actions and love those!

What is your favorite thing about this session?

My favorite thing about the session is definitely Elise! She was the sweetest girl and I am so glad that we were able to catch the real her!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

I think this session shows what a sweet, fun, stylish girl Elise is and what an amazing artist she is! As for my style, I think the biggest thing I strive for with every senior session is to find beautiful light and to capture the realness of them-I always want them leaving our session feeling fabulous — like they could be the next America’s Next Top Model;)

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

I would say the thing that makes the biggest difference in a good session and a stellar one is how well I get to know my senior before the actual session and how comfortable they feel in front of my lens.
