Lindsey Pantaleo of Lindsey Pantaleo Photography in Jefferson City, Missouri wanted to show lots of movement in the photos of this senior because of her energetic personality.  In addition to the photos, Lindsey also used this senior’s photo shoot to film a promo video, which showed off this senior’s personality, her favorite things and Lindsey’s new glam senior collection.  Check out the images from this session and read about what Lindsey had to say about the session.

You can view the promo video here and more of Lindsey’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Lindsey!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot? Our inspiration for the shoot was highlight Kaitlyn’s fun and energetic personality. We also wanted to include her favorite activities and people in the video. We used lots of movement in the photos, I believe movement captures fun moments and real smiles.

Where did this photo shoot take place? Downtown Jefferson City, Missouri (Yanis Coffee Zone)

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? Yes, I have all my seniors fill out a questionnaire so I get to know them better. Once I realized her favorite things and style we choose a couple outfits that went along with the activities we were planning. We wanted her outfits to be a representation of her style.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot? Nikon D700, Nikon D800, 35mm 1.5, 50mm 1.4, 70-200mm 2.8

What time of day were these taken? The photos were shot between 1:30-3pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session? I like to keep editing natural, but adding some enhancements to make them pop. I do most of my editing in Lightroom, but I did add some skin smoothing and blemish touch-ups for the final images in Photoshop. I really love the plug-in Portraiture for Photoshop, as it is great for smoothing skin without looking fake.

What is your favorite thing about this session? It really shows off Kaitlyn. She is spirited, giggly, and very fun to be around. When I look at her photos I smile because I think about how much fun we had that day. It was very cold and windy the day we shot, but she was all smiles.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style? I want Kaitlyn’s friends and family to look at these photos and video and see Kaitlyn at this time in her life. The video was a short documentary and peek into her day to day activities as a senior in high school. I consider myself a lifestyle senior photographer. I want to capture real moments and real expressions for my seniors. I feel like as photographers we sometimes focus too much on props and styling for our senior clients. We need to focus on giving our seniors the opportunity to be themselves and find activities that show off their true personalities.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors? Shooting seniors is fun! The more fun you have, the more fun your client will. Get to know your seniors before your appointment. Instead of scheduling a photo-shoot, schedule an activity that involves their interest and passion. You will really bring out who there are when photographing them in their natural environment. When they have fun working with you then they have a great experience to pass onto their friends.
