Nature is a huge inspiration for senior sessions, especially for those photographers who shoot only outdoors.  Having your seniors wardrobe go along with the colors and feel of being outdoors makes nature a perfect location for photo shoots.

“I love sticking with neutral color pallets for clothing since I am so inspired and drawn to nature when I shoot,” said Kate Becker of Kate Becker Photography.  “Abby definitely chose the perfect clothing options that not only flattered her personality, but my shooting style as well!”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
The inspiration for all of my senior shoots is just that: the senior! I love to get to know them as a person, and then capture them in their true essence. I want all of my sessions to be fun and laid-back, focusing on their youth and free spirits! It is such a fun time in their life where they are figuring out their future and who they want to become, so capturing them in this moment of their life and hearing their heart and plans is so fun for me!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This session took place in Northeast Minneapolis at a beautiful park.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mark 3 // Sigma 50 1.4 ART

What time of day were these taken?
Golden hour, right before sunset!!

My favorite thing about this session is that Abby’s personality really shines though all of the photographs. I love her big smiles along with those fierce serious faces! She definitely nailed it with the clothing choices, and I love how much her accessories — like that adorable hat from American Eagle — add to the shots!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I think that this session conveys my photography style perfectly: fun, light, carefree, and authentic!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Get your seniors to laugh! Not only will it look so authentic, but parents will love those true genuine smiles better than the fake ones they plaster on when they feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. I tell silly jokes, make fun of myself, and will literally just straight up say “okay, now giggle!!” during a shoot– because an awkward laugh always turns into a real one!
