Anytime you can offer your senior clients something different based on your unique talent or situation, will help you stand out in your area.

In this beautiful session below, photographer Jenny Borger of Jenny Marie Photography in Iowa said that she was able to offer her client something unique in the fact that Jenny also works in a boutique.

“I had an idea to offer the full blown package to my senior girls.  They would get their hair and makeup done by a local hair stylist and then we would go to the boutique where I work part time and create a wardrobe for them,” said Jenny.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I had an idea to offer the full blown package to my senior girls. They would get their hair and makeup done by a local hair stylist and then we would go to the boutique where I also work part time and create a wardrobe all for them. We were really inspired by boho and indie looks for this photo shoot! Jordin has such a unique style and I really wanted to showcase that.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo shoot took place in Northwest Iowa in the towns of Orange City and Alton.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes! We picked out the wardrobe from Holland House Interiors in Orange City, Iowa.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
My Canon 5D Mark III along with the 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 were used for this photo shoot.

What time of day were these taken?
These were taken right before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I only use Photoshop for my post processing. All I did was brighten and adjust color. Some of them have a matte finish action.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
It’s hard not to say everything because it really all came together the way I envisioned! I just love the golden light we were able to capture and the indie look that I love!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I like certain styles clothing wise but the biggest thing for me and my seniors is to keep it very NATURAL! I don’t like to over process their skin and I keep posing to a minimal. They are already absolutely gorgeous the way they are and that’s how I want to preserve them in their images!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Just have fun! Become their bestie…find out what they’re interested in and talk to them about it! Make them feel comfortable!
