According to Michelle Gifford of Jasper and Josephine Photography in Glendale, Arizona, this senior session was designed around Jessica, a senior who loves all things vintage.  Michelle says that she got some of the props from her own family farm and the vintage suitcases had her Grandpa Jo’s initials engraved by the handle.

Check out this session below and be sure to check out Michelle’s other work here.  Thanks for sharing Michelle!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?  Jessica is a beautiful girl who loves all things vintage.  I grew up on a ranch, so vintage speaks to me.   My house is decorated in old family treasures.  So, I chose some of my favorite pieces like my Grandpa Jo’s suit cases and books and my dad’s gunpowder boxes and then added a few new items that completed the feel.

Where did this photo shoot take place?  This is in the desert close to my home in Glendale, AZ.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  Yes.  We bounced ideas off of each other until we felt we had it just right.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?  I use Canon 50d and 50 mm 1.4 lens

What time of day were these taken?  Around 5:00 p.m.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?  I don’t do a lot of processing just because it isn’t my style.  But when I do, I love Michelle Kane’s actions and use her Creative Heart set.

What is your favorite thing about this session?  I love how light and warm this whole session was.  I just felt like it captured Jessica perfectly and at the end of the day, that is my main priority.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style? Senior sessions are unique because you get to focus on the personality of one person.  I want to show that I fuse clients’ personality with my style to create something they will love.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  Get to know your seniors before the session.  Almost all of my seniors are using social media and it is easy to keep in contact with them.  Utilize this and learn what makes them tick before the session so that you can bring out the real them when you pull out the camera.
