How many locations/backgrounds do you shoot per session?  For me, I always try to pick one location that has a mixture of both urban and country so that my client gets a variety.

Heather of Heather Owens Photography gave her client in the senior session below a mixture of both urban and field shots to go with this seniors wardrobe.  Heather says she was inspired by the client’s wardrobe and by using an urban location for the more rocker chic outfit and an open field for the soft cream dress, she was able to match her client’s style with the natural backdrops.

Check out this session below and be sure to check out more of Heather’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Heather!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
The client’s wardrobe was my inspiration.  She had this fabulous red blazer and a super cool AC/DC graphic tshirt that I knew would be perfect in an urban setting.  She also had an amazing lace dress from a local boutique that just screamed country chic.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Jonesboro, Arkansas

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon D800, Nikkor 85/1.8, large reflector.

What time of day were these taken?
Just before sunset, between 5:30 & 7:30P.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use minimal post-processing. Portraiture to smooth out skin.  A few curves and other adjustment layers.  No actions.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I LOVE the show series of images in the AC/DC tshirt . . . my client nailed the attitude, and she could not rock bright red lipstick any better!  I also love all of the sunset field shots . . . backlit fields are by far my favorite locations.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey that I can take beautiful photographs in a variety of locations and with a variety of looks without making my subjects look fake or over-edited.  I aim for natural beauty in all of my images.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My best tip is to just have fun with them.  The more you can laugh and interact and put them at ease, the better the session will go, and the better the images will be.
