Most senior sessions come during the client’s senior year of high school. But being home schooled is also a chance to capture the moment in a client’s life.
“This session was special in two ways. This senior was home schooled, graduated early and moved on without capturing the milestone.” said Deone Thornton of Deone Thornton Photography in St. George, Utah. “She also made a huge life changing decision and was baptized into the LDS Religion. This session represents both important milestones in this client’s life.”
Check out this beautiful session below and read what Deone had to say about it. Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Deone!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration was “light” and “beauty.” I had something very specific in mind for this session. I was going for a very soft, moody, creamy and yummy light look. I had 2 locations in mind and coordinated each outfit and accessories for that specific location.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
My home town of St. George, UT. We used a local golf course for the first location and then walked along the edge of the river for the 2nd location.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, I had a specific mood and look I wanted to portray in this session. I asked Emilee if she could search her closet for the clothing I had in mind. She IM me pictures and even ran out and bought a dress that ended up being perfect!
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon D4, 70-200mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 85mm 1.4
What time of day were these taken?
Evening 6:30 – 8:30
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use both Lightroom and Photoshop. Lightroom for any color corrections and white balance and then into photoshop for the final edits. In photoshop I use Nik software and Portraiture.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
EVERYTHING! I love the light, the location and of course my beautiful senior! I love how she was so comfortable and natural in front of the camera. LOVE THIS SESSION!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
As with all my session I want to portray the beauty that is both inside as well as out. I would describe my photography style as soft, natural, light and airy, haha is that a style??
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Oh gosh, I don’t think there is a one tip miracle drug so to speak. I would say one thing that has worked well for me is getting excited about what I see on the back of my camera. Confidence and relaxation takes a minute when you are photographing a senior, or anyone for that matter. I found that the more I get excited and compliment my seniors on their posing and body language helps get them excited and in return more relaxed, Everyone wants to do a good job and taking a good portrait is no exception.
