Finding unique locations is always a fun aspect to a senior photo shoot.  This photographer, Christy Archibald of Christy Archibald, said that some of this session was shot in a random creek bed in the middle of an apartment complex!  How unique!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?

The senior herself. Each senior is different, and one of my main goals is for their personality to be what shines through in the photographs.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Dallas, Texas–
A random creek bed and the Bishop Arts District

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. She picked the clothing and the style of location that she wanted. I gave her options for the locations based on her preferences.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mk ii
Canon 50 f/1.4…my LOVE!!

What time of day were these taken?
A couple of hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Red Leaf Film Emulsion Presets!! They take what’s in my head and make it happen on the RAW file…don’t know what I’d do without them!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Wow…so hard to choose just one thing! She’s stylish, super photogenic, and it was just all-around a fun session! I guess if I had to pick just one thing, it would be when she looks off camera with a kind of serious look on her face; she has somewhat of a Mona Lisa affect that makes you wonder what she’s thinking.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
As an artist, I want to, in essence, do such a thorough job of capturing my senior’s personality, that when someone sees my photographs, they see her as a person and don’t even notice my editing techniques or particular posing. I want to get myself out of the way of the viewer and be a channel of showing her natural inner-beauty to the world. With every senior, the location, the posing, the feel of the shoot is different because THEY’RE different. The senior told me that one of the reasons she chose me is because my photographs don’t look the same as everyone else’s. This is their time to shine, and I want to showcase THEM.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
It’s all about the senior, so help them relax and be themselves. Focus your energy on helping them feel comfortable and feel good about themselves. If they are relaxed and confident, it does more for your photos than Photoshop or a perfect pose could ever do.

Senior Inspiration – {Christy Archibald Photography}

  1. "Uncle" Todd says:

You are absolutely amazing Christy. I’ve never seen someone take to photography as quickly as you, but your eye for composition is what makes your shots so unique. I couldn’t be happier for you if you were my own daughter.

One little comment tho’…I’m a senior now and I’ve never seen a senior who looks like the girl in these shots! HeHe

  2. Christina says:

Christy is an amazing photographer. The main reason we chose her is her ability to capture a moment and the essence ofthe person or persons. She truly captured the beauty and personality of my daughter in these photos. We were more than pleased with the outcome.
