When your senior asks for an edgy, urban and dynamic photo shoot, choosing the locations with that senior to pull off that look is extremely important.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Sydney wanted senior pictures that were a little edgy, urban and dynamic. We chose places together that showcased her spunky side and captured her fun, adventurous personality!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
We began at the Dayton Art Institute and ended by exploring some abandoned buildings in downtown Dayton.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. Sydney sent me pictures of different outfits she was considering and we picked a few different ones to complement the locations we decided to shoot at.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 60D, Canon 35mm 1.4

What time of day were these taken?
A few hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I edit all of the pictures in Lightroom, and do some final touch-ups in Photoshop 🙂

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved the adventure! It was awesome that Sydney was willing to explore, and we brought along a friend who helped us discover some unique locations that we never knew existed. It was an out-of-the-box session for me, but I love how it turned out!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want it to convey Sydney’s fun & feisty personality combined with my style of taking genuine and authentic portraits. I love when clients push me out of my comfort zone and ask to try something new and different. I hope this session shows my versatility as a photographer, while still remaining true to my style.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Relax! Don’t be afraid to be silly to help them enjoy the shoot and have a great experience. I always love to bring along a second shooter, or have them bring a close friend to help make them laugh to capture some genuine emotion.
