From casual wear to prom dresses and everything in between can be worn for a senior photo session.  Being able to showcase a senior’s style shows a range and helps tell who that senior is through photos.

Ballad Hall of Ballad’s Photography submitted the beautiful session below showcasing these seniors in both casual everyday wear and in their prom dresses.  Check out what Ballad had to share about this session.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Ballad!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I love bringing an artistic feel to my shoots and once the girls had sent me photos of their dresses, we played off them and chose from two of thousands of options on the Central Coast. We are very blessed with so many locations to chose from over here.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Los Osos, CA.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. They sent me photos of their dresses and the casual was up to them to chose.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mark II, 50mm 1.2, 24-70mm

What time of day were these taken?
Late afternoon

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I try to do as little photoshop as possible in post production. I want my clients to look natural and I aim to get the photo right the first time. I learned on film many years ago and feel like too much photoshop is “cheating”.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The girls enthusiasm was incredible. They had a ton of energy and willingness to jump in. Thankfully there were no rattlesnakes that day!!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I love to bring an artistic feel to my shoots so that my clients want their photos blown up on their walls and won’t be tired of them. We always do the traditional “head shots” for the school’s requirements, but we have a lot of fun with the whole session, bringing in something unique.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Make sure your clients are comfortable with you first. I always get boyfriend/girlfriend’s names so I can make them laugh, or crushes. I highly recommend a professional makeup artist to work with as well. Krisa Watson worked with me on this shoot and it does help post production to almost nothing.
