Dance is such a beautiful art and it allows those that take it to move gracefully.  When it comes to photographing a dancer, as a photographer you know you will get to create images with lots of movement.

In this urban dance shoot that took place in Utah, Jennifer Corbett of As Ever Photography captures this senior and her love of dance in a cool urban location as well as a beautiful nature location.

Check out what Jennifer had to say about this session below.  Thank you for sharing your work with Seniorologie Jennifer!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration was Ashtyn’s love of the moody, urban aesthetic. We also wanted to capture her love of dance so we decided to photograph her in her point shoes on a downtown rooftop.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah and Utah Lake.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, we collaborated on the general concept. Her aesthetic is more urban than what I typically shoot, so it was really fun to come up with new shooting locations! The clothing choices for the downtown photos were her own. For the second part of the session, we worked together to come up with a softer look to add variety to her images.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I shoot with a Canon 5D MKIII. Lenses used included the Canon 50mm 1.2, the Canon 85mm 1.2, the Canon 35mm 1.4, and the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art.

What time of day were these taken?
Evening

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I processed this session using heavily a modified VSCO film preset.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love Ashtyn’s intensity! I also love her gorgeous blue eyes and freckles. She was so much fun to photograph. I enjoyed exploring new locations to achieve her desired look.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I hope this session conveys my desire to customize my senior sessions to each client; to work with each individual to make their portrait session a fun experience that reflects who they are at this incredible time in their life.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Have fun and don’t over-pose! Seniors today spend a lot of time looking at images and taking selfies and generally know the way they like to be photographed. I’m there to guide them and add variety to their movements/poses, but I find that I often get my best shots when I let them “freestyle” for a bit! 🙂
