An old Hollywood theme seems perfect to show right after the biggest party in Hollywood, The Oscars!  And we have the perfect session to feature!

Katarina McEachern of Always and Forever Photography planned this concept with her cousin, who is also the senior in this shoot!  Katarina says that they wanted to capture these photos from the viewpoint of stumbling upon an abandoned movie set from the 1950’s.  And Katarina says she was able to create this concept on a very tight budget!  Way to go!

Check out the session below and be sure to view more of Katarina’s work here.  Thanks for sharing!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot? Our inspiration for this shoot was definitely the elegance of the Golden Age of Hollywood.  I absolutely love and am amazed at the gorgeous black and white photos from that time period.
Where did this photo shoot take place?  This photo shoot took place at a local state park.  There is a rustic stone building that made the perfect backdrop for this shoot.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? Yes.  My cousin and I wanted to create fine art portraits…something that years and years down the road she (not just her mom) would still want to display in her home. After brainstorming for quite some time, the idea of creating an abandoned movie set, was born.  We approached it from the aspect of stumbling upon an abandoned movie set; amidst the curious whimsical enchantment, you begin to imagine your favorite 50’s actress(my cousin) elegantly gracing the scene.

Honestly, God truly blessed this session with beautiful weather, the PERFECT dress (only $10 at Goodwill), and some amazing online tutorials for vintage hair and makeup.  Believe it or not, her hairstyle and makeup took me a total of 10 minutes!!  Yes, you heard right!! 🙂

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot? I used my Nikon D5000 and my 50mm 1.8.

What time of day were these taken? As a natural light photographer, I prefer to shoot two hours before sunset.  These were taken during November so we began around 4:00.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session? I use a combo of lightroom and photoshop elements(elements has everything I will ever need).  I generally take my photos to PSE and perform any color correction (such as exposure…etc.) then I run my AMAZING Florabella Classic Workflow actions in my favorite color combos.

What is your favorite thing about this session? It was a special time with my cousin- and an exciting time in her life!! I’m so honored that she allowed me to take her portraits!! We definitely had a blast and couldn’t be happier with the results!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  The elegant and sweet personality of my cousin along with my love for timeless photos with a whimsical eclectic vintage flair.  Also, that amazing photoshoots can come from a simple idea.  I will go the extra mile to help you completely transform a little detail into something incredibly awesome!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  Relax and really take the time to listen for details or anything that inspires your client when collaborating to create that perfect senior session. Let them know that you are there to make their dreams come true!!
