What do you do when it rains?  As natural light photographers we are constantly hoping mother nature helps us out and provides beautiful weather on the day of our shoots.  But sometimes she doesn’t cooperate.

In this session below, Alison Chesney of Alison Frank Photography in Florida says that the weather was not on her side but she didn’t give up!

“Being in South Florida during th summer, we are always battling afternoon rainstorms,” said Alison.  “So Avery and I had to change almost everything we had planned as far as locations because it was pouring out!  We didn’t give up, and instead just kept driving further south to where it was not raining!”

Check out the beautiful locations Alison and Avery ended up finding when they drove away from the rain!  And read what else Alison had to say about this session!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Alison!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration for this shoot was Avery herself. She really wanted to be photographed on the tree swing, and then we worked around that, finding other locations that we a bit of a contrast from the sweetness of the swing.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
All over South Florida – Davie, FL, Plantation, FL and Dania Beach, FL.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. Avery is from Gainesville, FL and was in town for her photo shoot. We talked about her clothing over the phone and text. She would text me outfits, and we would choose the best one.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used a Nikon D750, with the 85 mm 1.4 lens.

What time of day were these taken?
We started the shoot around 6 p.m. and ended at sundown.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I did a quick edit in Lightroom for exposure, contrast and color. Then, I also worked on some images in Photoshop with certain actions I use and a little skin smoothing.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved how fun and adventurous this session was! We really had to leave our expectations behind and just go for it. We didn’t give up because of rain, and instead found other locations to shoot that wound up to be incredible. I loved how much we laughed, and how optimistic we stayed.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I hope that this session conveys how carefree, beautiful, stylish and fun Avery is. As for my photography style, I work to be creative, artistic, light and happy.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My one tip regarding seniors is to have fun with them. We all want their gorgeous side to show, but when they are themselves, fun and silly, they really shine.
