Seniors these days have a better sense of what they want to do with their lives than I did when I was in high school!  I had no idea!  🙂

But photographer Kristen Lenox of K. Lenox Photography says that this senior knows she wants to be a fashion designer.  “She has an interest in fashion design so one of the outfits she wore, she designed herself,” said Kristen.

How cool to be able to capture a senior in her own fashion!  Check out this awesome session below and read what else Kristen had to say about this session.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Kristen!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Honestly-  every young lady that I have the honor of working with is my inspiration.  I LOVE to really bring out their personality.   I believe that creating awesome images relies much on your social skills along with the technical skills.   I get to know each of my seniors and really try to bring their personality out in the pictures we create.

This session was broken up into two parts.   The second part of our session was used as part of my promotional film.  As a kind of behind the scenes.  Emma is featured in my film.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Part one-  took place in Keene NH. . . with the majority being on/around Keene State college.  The second part- (where the filming took place)  was around various locations in Brattleboro VT.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I always reach out to get a feel for what my seniors are planning on wearing-  so that we can plan their session accordingly.  I make suggestions based on the type of session they are looking for.  (urban, open field etc)  Ultimately though-  I encourage the seniors to wear something they feel beautiful in.  Something that represents who they are today.  If they feel comfortable and beautiful, this is going to reflect in the images.

Emma is really interested in fashion design.  An outfit of hers she actually designed herself.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III.   My go to lens is the 70-200mm f2.8 is II.  I also used the Canon 600 Ex-RT for fill flash at times.

What time of day were these taken?
Evening- Golden hour.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I try to keep my post processing clean and not very trendy.   I edit 99% of the time in Lightroom.  I use basic adjustments to color correct.  I also use some presets that I purchased from Pure Photoshop actions.  They are my go to starting point- then I tweak to my liking.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Everything!  Emma was a blast to work with.  And I absolutely LOVED the locations that we chose.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Emma is an amazing and unique young lady with so much to look forward too.   One thing I really want my senior gals to know- is that I really want to bring out personality.  I’m not looking for stiff and stuffy poses.  I want real.   I want fluid and relaxed.   I want fun.  I truly believe that everyone is beautiful.  I want each of my girls to feel so comfortable… that each moment captured is truly genuine.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Have fun- and don’t be afraid to open up and really get to know your seniors.  I end up getting to know them-  all about their hobbies and their insecurities.  Open up about  yours as well. Once they realize that you are just like them-  they (at least in my experience) will relax and open up.
