Following your seniors on Instagram and other social media outlets is a great way to keep in touch with them and see what they are up to.  And sometimes it can be a source of inspiration!

Maya Laurent of Such Great Heights in Westfield, Indiana says, “This session came about after seeing the girls post photos on Instagram in similar outfits.  I saw the photos and instantly wanted to do a shoot with the look, a roller girl with a bit of a tough feel.”

Check out this fun session below and read what else Maya had to say about it!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Maya!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I actually saw some Instagram photos of a few of the girls dressed up for their senior parade. I had photographed a couple of them before so I contacted them to gather a group of girls to recreate the look at a fun session.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
We did the session in an empty parking lot at sunset time.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
They had already come up with the idea for their senior parade so I told them to just add to it a bit with makeup. They all got together before and helped each other get “the look” before meeting with me for the shoot.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon D700 with 50mm and 35mm lens along with a reflector to bounce back in light.

What time of day were these taken?
Sunset Time

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use my wonderful editing company, The Colorwell (http://www.thecolorwell.com/), for editing to keep a consistent look to my photos and so I can spend more time with my clients instead of editing.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The girls were hilarious getting into the theme of a roller girl. They would act so tough and then start cracking up. It was also pretty funny to try to watch them skate! There was lots of laughs.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I like doing sessions that are fun and allow the girls to have a blast. It’s fun to step out of the normal senior session and do something a bit different.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
This was a fly-by-the-seat of your pants idea after seeing their outfits on social media. Not every session has to be planned out to every single detail. Sometimes it’s fun to just run with it and leave the styling to the girls. They seemed to have a lot of fun doing each others makeup and creating the look. They had ownership in the shoot then.
