How long have you been in business? I have been in business with VioletRay Photography for 5 years.

What percentage of your business is seniors? At least 85% of my business is Seniors. I LOVE working with HS Seniors because of all their wonderful individuality!

What do you think makes a perfect senior session? A senior student who is strong in knowing their own personality, and who brings a lot of life and adventure to the session! You don’t need a ton of props to make magic happen, you just need enthusiasm and life!

What do you love most about photographing seniors? I love the challenge of capturing each senior’s best features! Each student is so different and I love getting to know them all throughout their session

What would you say is the biggest challenge in your business? Sometimes making them believe and know that they are beautiful. So many kids these days have such terrible self-esteem, for whatever cause, and sometimes those fears even get in the way of their picture being taken. It’s a sadness to me, but by the end of every session, each of my seniors have felt special and that makes me the most happy of all!

Describe your photography style? I’m “Classic and Contemporary” I’m there to give my seniors that fun, fresh edginess they crave, but also make “mum and dad” happy with classic portraiture. Always something different for every senior, but always guaranteed satisfaction all the way around.

What motivates or inspires you in your photography? Life. Life is precious, and the fact that each person is here for a specific reason gives me passion for capturing it. I am always so blessed when a parent tells me “you caught that expression just right! That’s the same face as when they were 5 years old!”

Twenty Questions Game…Just for fun!

Where are you from/live? I was born and raised in Montana. I’m super proud to say I’m a native Montanian!

Nikon or Cannon? Canon all the way! I am the proud new owner of a Canon 5D Mark III, and own all L-series glass (lenses). I’m definitely a go big or go home chick 😉

What kind of camera bag do you carry? I’ve got 3 different Kelly Moore bags. Oh my… yes its true… I’ve got a terrible purse fetish and it carried over into my camera bag world too!

Favorite music to edit to? Pandora Shiny Toy Guns or CocoRosie radio stations. I’ve a very wide variety of taste when it comes to music, but these two make up the best editing stations!

Favorite Photoshop Action? Nichole Van Photo Fix and Studio Pop.

A photographer that inspires you? Nichole Van. I’ve always said, “when I grow up… I want to be the next Nichole Van.” 😉

Favorite Food? PIZZA!!!! It’s my go to food for everything, specially when I’m not sure what it is that I want.

Favorite place to shop? Besides Camera/Digtal stores, probably The Buckle! Love me some Miss Me jeans and some crazy awesome shoes!

Favorite drink at Starbucks? OMG! Their new Cookie Crumble Frap totally stole my heart away from the Java Chip Frap … and I’m not even sure how it happened!!!…

Favorite Guilty Pleasure? Going to U-Swirl Yogurt Shop… nom nom nom

Favorite memory from when you were a senior? horse back riding! I had just gotten to finally buy my first horse! Remirrez (my blue roan horse) was my senior project and I got accepted into the Equine Program in Wyoming with him.

Favorite Quote or Saying? “If you think and worry too much, everything tends to turn out bad”. – Quistis Final Fantasy VIII

Favorite Workshop or photography event you have attended? WPPI 2012-GhostTown Shootout. At shootouts you meet the most amazing people. I’ve even remained friends with a couple of the models!

Favorite Magazine? I don’t really have a favorite per say, but I love anything with high fashion and lots of inspiring ideas. =) Rangefinder, Vogue, etc

Favorite Vacation Spot? Los Angeles, CA. I love that city to pieces. I go there at least once a year just to get away and relax.

Favorite Movie? Cinderella. Anyone that knows me, knows I’m the world’s largest Disney fan, and Cinderella holds all my views on life. You can’t always change your circumstances, but you can change how you deal with them. Its up to us to “remain ever sweet, gentle and kind.”  <3’s
